My original point, stated with some rhetorical flourish that could be misinterpreted, is that (1) the range of likely possibilities for the legal status of abortion is narrow, and (2) I don’t like zealots.

This is not 1920. Abortion will be legal and relatively cheap from here on out, no matter who is elected to Congress from New York, no matter who is on the Supreme Court. At the edges, we may ebb and wane on stuff like 8 month old fetuses, parental notification for minors, or reporting rape cases, but on the whole, the US will be de facto pro-choice forever. They cost a little more than a cavity filling, but much less than a root canal. Why get all emotional? in a blog?

Dear idiot: For you it may be something ‘minor’, for 51 percent of the population, it’s rather a big deal. It’s a big deal if you have to carry your rapist’s child to term. It’s a big deal if a hospital refuses you emergency contraception after your rape— because they’re a catholic hospital, or their state doesn’t mandate it— or tells the rape victim she has to pay for it.

It’s a big deal if you have to bear a pregnancy to term when you don’t want to, for the 51 percent of the population that can get pregnant.

And there are lots of people who don’t get a root canal when they need one, because they don’t have the money or the insurance, and so they wait a while. NOT AN OPTION for a pregnancy.

hey. non-concern troll— why are you so worried about this? On a blog?
