How bad was work last night?

Like I mentioned yesterday evening, I have no idea why ANYONE was scheduled until 11:30pm last night in the front end. The overnight cashier, who monitors self-scan and stocks the cereal aisle, comes in at 10:00pm and is there all night, It was a Sunday night, even a 24 hours store like ours doesn’t get really busy up in the mountains at that time on a Sunday night.

Silly thing is, they had a HEAD CLERK scheduled until the same time. These “schedule blocks” all come from Kroger corporate, a computer, part of the Engineered Labor Management SYstem and the Key Retailing system… in short, software trying to figure out the nuances of staffing a large, 24 hour a day supermarket in the mountains alone a tourist route… doesn’t work… Kroger has lost money because of these new systems, which were integrated into the business over the last few years.
