You should have a last name then. You father’s uncle? or great uncle? ancestry.com is good indeed. Jews are lucky in that regard. The survivors have been writing the history for some 40 odd years. I think they started to compile the books in the 70s, called the Yitzkor books. Most of it is online at the NY Public Library site via jewishgen.org.
