Before I go on, I have to respond to this. Sorry, but you hit a counter-annoyance.

Yes, I now you’re unhappy about the script reading, but here’s the deal: it’s there because people are idiots. It’s there because the vast majority of difficulties can be solved - or at least sent to the right place to get solved - through the answers to that script. Yours is an exception? great, sorry it’s taking so long, but it’s this or sit on hold for hours while the people try to follow what the caller thinks is wrong.

And that last… One week, I had a rash of calls that turned out to be unplugged computers. Cleaning company had come through and a new guy/enthusiastic wanted-a-permanent-job-so-did-extra unplugged machines so he could get back and clean the dust from among the cord area. And forgot to plug about a third of them back in. (Great initiative, poor execution.)

Among the rash of calls were several from nominally computer type people who kept insisting there were a range of problems. “Oh, yeah.” “Oops.” You get the idea.

My annoyance on top of this is the ones who insist they’ve checked. I always enjoyed turning in those service tickets. “$xx for service call to personally conduct stage 1 tech support: plug in computer.”

Truer words were never spoken. My number one rule of tech troubleshooting: check that it’s plugged in. I’ve even burned myself not following my own advice.
