Let’s totally ignore that many prominent conservatives during the actual Civil Rights Movement were busy labeling the movement as communist sympathizing. I’d like the idiots on twitter who harp on about the Democrats being the real racists to name at least one prominent liberal opponent of civil rights from that era. I can name easily five conservatives who opposed it: Thurmond, Buckley, Goldwater(voted against CRA), Reagan(ran in opposition to bans on housing discrimination in California), and pretty much everyone who signed the Southern Manifesto which did include some Republicans.
