Well, I’m going to buy a 2002 Saturn SL1 from my grandson’s friend today. It’s having a #4 cyl code showing up, he’s tuned up and replaced the ignition coil, so maybe I can live with it. If it’s misfiring, I’ll check out the plug to make sure it’s gapped right, checks the codes myself, and if that’s not it, and if it passes inspection, I’m not going to worry about it for the moment. It’s about the same 5 spd ‘97 I’m driving now, and the clutch is giving me trouble among other small stuff, and which I’m giving to the kid downstairs for $1 (he will work on it to his delight).

He wants $7-800. He’s getting $700 (practically a steal), if I have to take it to a mechanic and/or spend some money on it. It’s drivable (he drove it back and forth to work but got an Explorer) and it’s a good deal I can’t pass up. I don’t think he’s really a Saturn kind of guy, but those Saturns can give you 500K miles before they choke out totally. Love them; good basic car and the only reason GM stopped making them was that they last so long (mine is 17 yrs old already w/almost 300K mi) and GM wasn’t making a ton of money on them. Also, they don’t rust, which isn’t a big problem down south, but can be up north or at the beach.
