I am also thinking how dangerous it is in a two-party system of government that the quality of the potential candidates of one of those parties is so abysmally poor that Donald Trump would lead them all by 9 points. I am relieved by reminding myself how early in the process it is. But, I actually don’t see much evidence that this situation might improve.

I’m in the mindset of a sports fan right about now, watching the first minutes of the first half/quarter, the optimistic part of my brain telling me “It’s still early, things can get better!,” while the pessimistic part is grumbling “Here they go again.”
