I remember watching Cry Freedom in 10th grade history and it effecting me deeply. AT the movie’s end, they go through a list of black South Africans who died in suspicious circumstances at the Apartheid’s regime’s hands and end in 1987- the year I was born. I just thought about how firstly that was really close to my own birth and then that President Reagan, the same man conservatives love to call a champion of freedom turned a blind eye to Apartheid and South Africa simply because they were an anti-communist regime.

I remember the first time I watched the Eyes on the Prize series. I’d grown up in a town that had schools federally desegregated, and had heard a lot of racist shit from people (we were also near a pretty big area for the Klan), but, damn, those people had guts. Broke my heart. Still this shit breaks my heart.
