Systems are getting more intelligent over time, and I do believe we will have to define some as sentient in the future. I just get tired of the assumption that they are automatically going to wipe out humanity because some movie said so. If movies were accurate, we would already be colonizing Mars by now.

Now, as we know, the surest way to turn someone into a monster is to treat them as one, so maybe this will be self-fulfilling. But movies like Terminator are meant to be scary and are meant to sell tickets.
