I retired in 2009, and I’ve never been so glad to be a retired teacher. Neither Trump nor DeVos knows, or cares, about public education or teachers. How can they when neither has had any experience dealing with public schools, public school students, and public school teachers? They’re outsiders, looking in, and critiquing the “many problems” they see in public schools without realizing that the “many problems” they’re identifying has everything to do with their policy positions on public education.

A really good goal for a Secretary of Education would be to assure that every kid in America gets the education evident in the Parkland students.
