Ick, un-yard.

The fake shutters thing is not new. Parent’s house back in the 1970’s was a wood-frame, vinyl siding house and it had the fake shutters. At least the lot sizes were bigger back then since we had at least 3x the space between the houses if not more.

Yeah, out here the lots in the 1970’s were often still over 6000 sq ft. The house I bought had a quarter acre, though some of it was hillside, which wasn’t really usable but meant at least I had greenery in back compared to another house.

So much construction starting especially in the 1990’s really crammed in the structures on small lots. So much of the new construction, even houses above a million dollars, now sit on lots bare larger than the McMansion sized house.

But that goes along with the society eschewing living things, like plants. Flippers hate plants - they usually destroy them, even trees. Even new construction often has no planting.

The excuse is saving water.

Which is a lie, because the close the houses means more houses per acre, and each house will consume water internally.

Oh, and any backyard is totally dedicated to a pool.

So no, there is no water saving by giving up on plants.

It’s all an excuse for a society of people who have no connection to the actual life that sustains us.

Anyway, the hard part of changing our lifestyle is convincing people that what matters is not the “investment” but life.
