Consiousness altering substances should be carefully regulated so their use does not pose a public threat. Strangely enough I am all for legalization of pot given the huge cost of the war on drugs. We should also ramp up deterrents for driving under the influence or domestic abuse due to alcohol and drugs at the same time.

I’m not a fan of drugs and I’ve seen too many families torn apart by addition - but prohibition should be a personal choice because a personal choice is much more likely to be heeded than a government dictate. In fact after legalization I suspect there would be a short surge in usage then a drop to almost average pre-legalization levels of use. At the same time I predict crime along border states would drop significantly.

Prohibition tells us that story. Usage only dropped slightly but gang crime went off the charts.

Agreed and I completely support all public safety laws. DUI and screening of folks who have jobs which may be affected (airline/train/bus operator, etc). I also don’t think insurance companies should be forced to insure/cover someone who doesn’t wear a helmet on a motorcycle.
