Yeah, Sinn Féin is a democratic socialist party; that sort of trips up American RW’ers from time to time - I honestly think they don’t realize it. I’ve met a couple of Sinn Féin members here in Europe, English teachers like me; they’re nice enough and definitely Irish nationalists, but they struck me as committed to the political process, not violence.

In general, American’s understand as much about European politics as European’s understand American politics. There may be a small glimmer of ideas, but understanding? Not deeply.

We, are again, separated by a common tongue where words are interpreted differently, and people tend to pay attention to what affects them. Though, when it comes down to it, most Americans don’t understand their own politics very well due to a lack of understanding of how our government is supposed to word and being morons.
