My school has a giant, very amateurish, nineteenth century painting of Potiphar’s wife seducing Joseph. It used to hang in a San Francisco saloon, and has a repaired bullet hole in it from that era of it’s existence. It was donated to the school, along with a lot of money, and as a result, it now hangs in the foyer of our cafeteria.

It’s pretty wonderfully awful.

Crappy kitsch, once it reaches a certain age, becomes transcendently beautiful.
