re: #168 Bobibutu
You did well. Hats off to you and your family. I understand your curiosity drive.
My best friend and I searched the skys for Sputnik - nights on end - never saw it.
I too am a nut cake dyed in the wool science/technology fruit loop. Your brothers flew me around Vietnam and SEAsia in Beachcraft Queenair’s with Kingair wings - forget the designation just now. Also Elmer Fudds when the Navy provided transport to Yankee Station. Built my first rocket in 1958 ish.Science - technology - evolution - yeah!
Many thanks. There was always a sharp dichotomy between my paternal and maternal families, and I took after my dad’s side. This was not the case for all of us though. My brother, mentioned in #167, is more like my mom’s extended clan. Apparently he never realized that she married my dad at least in part to escape from them.
The army Queenaire was the U-8 Seminole, which was a nifty plane and quite rugged, belying its corporate limo origins. I think Elmer Fudd was the Grumman C-1 Trader, but I am not so sure about Navy machines of that era.
