Well, what happen to today is that I was reading about WWII destroyers and came across some facts about your old haunt of Mare Island. I knew the USS Ward was the fastest-build ocean-going US warship of the 20th Century (less than 2months from keel laying to commissioning) but I did not know that Mare Island had built her. Not surprised though.
