On any contentious issue there is going to be incendiary rhetoric coming from both sides. A demand that one side stop all its incendiary rhetoric before any of its issues will be addressed is BS tone trolling.

This is a lot older than the internet. Leaders of the antebellum South were experts in the art of tone trolling.
