China has expressed that its feelings are hurt, and also predicted difficulties in the future should the USA get too close to the islands China has essentially seized.

The current regime here seems bent on military and commercial dominance of the region, at least as long as the money holds out. Or maybe in case the money doesn’t hold out.

I don’t think we will be de-mobilizing our military presence in the South Pacific any time soon.
