I think it’s all about a seed of doubt being planted. It is possible for a creationist looking to go into a scientific field to get a wake-up call. Karl Giberson is a prime example.

In his book Saving Darwin, Giberson discusses his own evolution as a creationists to a “Darwinist”- he’d originally planned to pursue science so he could prove creation, but somewhere in the course of his studies, he came to realize the scientific evidence was too compelling to not be fact.

Perhaps something along those lines will happen with these kids.
