The .223 is a much larger bullet than anything used by a handgun. Excuse me if it’s not technically considered “large caliber,” but here’s the difference between a .22 round and a .223 round:

Bad argument to get caught up in—there are too many definitions of the terms involved. (At my installation, anything up to .50 was under the Small Caliber Weapons Systems Lab.)
