It shouldn’t be controversial that clean air is important to reducing bad health outcomes, but the right wingers think war on coal is a bad thing.

The war on coal faction is against the faction that wants clean air.

Everyone suffers from coal production - the miners who are seeing a spike in coal related health injuries like black lung (because remaining miners in the US are working longer hours and suffering from longer exposure to particulates to the people downwind from the energy plants that burn the coal.

Reduce the coal burned and you improve air quality (and reduce the number of birds killed) and you also reduce the number of miners exposed to potential black lung.

But the coal producing states don’t want to see those jobs lost, so they’re fighting to retain them, and want to make sure that coal exports to places like China continue - because there’s profit to be made.

All this shows is that there’s no such thing as clean coal.
