It’s an article of faith, it’s dogma, and that of course means that they don’t feel that have to provide proof in order for it to be true. They spent months going down every blind ally they could find to justify their belief that there was “something” that could be done. Told themselves there was gunships in the area that could have rendered assistance, or jets that were nearby could have been flown overhead to scare the crowd away, or that a laser dot from a UAV which is invisible to the naked eye would have scared away the guys running the mortars.

Anything but the reality that the military does not have transporters and sometimes, help is too far away to be of any use.
