Kinda makes me wonder why anyone whose not the anointed heir would takes a powerful position and a temporary placeholder. It must be a nightmare sitting there waiting to be killed but I guess it’s like medieval royal courts. You can hang out with the aristocracy and enjoy life for a short while until someone kills you. I suppose it beats starving in the countryside with the peasants.
