One of my best friends in grad school was German. Last time I saw him was 10 years ago in Freiburg as best man at his wedding. Anyway we would occasionally have the same misunderstanding. I would think he was disrespecting me, or vice versa, when it was all in our imaginations due to the nuances of language and myriad interpretations thereof.

Don’t worry about the “tone deafness”, I don’t think it’s a big deal. I overinterpreted your last statement and again apologize. I overreacted.
