I wager that China has been doing a lot of selling, as it tries to shore up its own economy. The People’s Bank has also gotten very worried about Chinese using bitcoin to move money offshore, and they’ve been “investigating” the major bitcoin exchanges in China. The exchanges have tightened up their procedures (no margin trading and no fee waivers for activity), and now two have announced users can no longer withdraw bitcoins from their accounts. That means no one can send those bitcoins abroad.
