It does make you thankful for modern medicine. My grandmother’s older half brother had an infected boil that ended taking his life. He was only 15 years old.

My dad’s older brother died in ‘33 from some infection he got while swimming in Long Island Sound, probably from a scraped leg or something. He was in his late 20s at the time, and in otherwise perfect health.
