Putin seems to know when to stop (at least currently), which sets him apart from a certain German dictator with a funny little mustache, with whom Putin is often compared.

William Shirer once remarked that if Hitler had stopped after the fall of France in 1940, he likely would’ve been remembered as perhaps the greatest German conqueror of all time. But of course, he didn’t (or couldn’t) stop….and the rest is history, as they say.

Alternative scenarios allowing Germany to win WWII usually depend on Hitler and the Nazis not being Nazis. He was always going to attack the Soviet Union sooner or later, and it pretty much had to be sooner when (he thought) the Soviets were still weak enough to defeat.
