So glad I saw the handwriting on the wall and got out of journalism 10 years ago. Loved the job - be it as sports editor or news editor for a small-city paper. Aside from covering games/meetings, also had the chance to write opinion pieces. And investigative pieces such as exposing elected officials who were delinquent on their personal or business property taxes. But I was making less as a news editor in 2012 than I was as a sports editor in 1998. The job quit loving me back.

That’s a shame. The plutocracy is obviously instituting Gilded Age v 2.0. Neutering the press is an essential part of that, and simply starving the press and/or turning it into entertainment may suffice to prevent any Muckrakers v 2.0.
