During WW2, for a time the Soviets took the more direct approach and massacred and raped their way across E. Prussia, with two results: the Germans ethnic cleansed themselves, needing no further inducement than that to leave, and then the Wehrmacht found one last reason to fight, when there was no other reason: they were the rearguard for the evacuation of millions of civilians.

This became so big a problem that Stalin ordered a halt to the propaganda incitement to rape and massacre, and ordered that normal rules of conduct be reinstated.

After Germany surrendered, ethnic Germans were transferred out of the Sudetenland, Silesia, and East Prussia. The conquered land was to go to the conquerors, and the losers would be gifted their lives but stripped of their homes.

Nobody with access to polite company has ever criticized that. You start a war and fight nasty and lose, that’s what you get and be glad it wasn’t worse.
