Winston Chruchill call it “the black dog” and I recall bouts of it hitting me even at times when things seemed to be going entirely well and I had nothing to be particularly down about.

Subconscious associations mean that a percept or a concept indirectly could remind you of something that triggers depression or distress that leads to depression. There’s no A is A in our brains, and our emotions often pull harder on the interconnections of thoughts than our sapient bits.
