Britain did not lock down sooner because ministers failed to challenge poor scientific advice, the first major report into the Government’s pandemic response has concluded.

Because they panicked like a deer in the headlights, fearing that between Covid and Brexit, their economy could go into a tailspin. They hoped that “herd immunity” would be a cheaper option that would spare the economy.
