The Roi told me earlier today he thought BP would have to pump 50=60 barrels of mud per minute for this to work, and he wasn’t certain they would be able to do it and get it past the BOP into the well. Lets hope they’ve figured it out and it works.

Thanks for that detail. What may save the day is that the well is apparently not free-flowing up the bore and the route it is taking is partly obstructed. That and the extent to which the BOP is actually closed. I believe it would be impossible otherwise as they couldn’t overcome the pressure and all the mud would flow out the top.

They have a serious amount of mud to give it a go. Other good news is my estimate of the consequences of further damage to the riser above the stack was out of whack. BP claims the increase in flow would only be around 15%.
