Mr. Spooner’s cap commemorates the USS Yorktown (CV-5), the aircraft carrier lost at the epic battle of Midway in 1942. 40 men went down with the ship, there were 2,270 survivors. The wreck was re-discovered by Robert Ballard in 1998.
Mr. Spooner is 87 years old. I wonder if he is a veteran of that battle and that ship?
