yes, the argument is counter-productive and totally alienates people who are otherwise practical-minded with regards to health care but do not like the notion of โfreeโ anything.
A better argument is the government provides a service (healthcare) in exchange for taxation. It isnโt free, but it is available to all.
For those who want cadillac care, non-necessary care (like most plastic surgery), you are also free to buy insurance or pay out-of-pocket.
The socialistic argument to make is that the government can provide regular services for everyone at a lower cost, because it is not in it for profit.
