It’s the same with French in Louisiana. Some places go by the traditional French pronunciation and others go with a bastardized English version.

I think the farther South you go, the more Spanish the pronunciation of the Spanish words gets. e.g. La Jolla near San Diego is pronounced “La Hoya”, but in NorCal, Vallejo is pronounce “Vallayo”.
