It is the army that keeps Turkey Secular, by design, and by history. The army has deposed more than one government that wanted to turn “fundametal” but the current state of education in Turkey has swung back to the fundy type and there are now up and coming in the military soldiers and officers who are not as “secular” as they once were. What will happen when they get to be senior officers? How soon will this shift take place? these are questions which need to be answered even here in the US due to our NATO ties and access to allies such as Georgia which is only accessable by air or thru the Dardenelles….
