re: #176 Naso Tang

I guess we are back to the semantics of “fundamentalist”. To me it means a lack of logic in interpretations of holy scriptures, tantamount to literal interpretations of scriptures (when it is convenient).

What does it mean to you?

It’s not semantics, it’s accuracy.

You’re asking a person familiar with what actual, self-identified “Fundamentalistst Christians” actually believe and how they live, so you might not like my answer. You’re right about literal interpretations of scripture (Biblical inerrancy).

They are often confused with rightwing conservative Evangelical Christians because the belief in Biblical inerrancy (which was originated with the Fundamentalists about 100 years ago, by the way) influences many socially and theologically conservative Protestants, not just those id’ing as “Fundamentalist Christians”.

The general populace takes “fundamentalist” to mean something similar, typically some flavor of Protestant. But this guy doesn’t talk in even general terms understood to be “fundamentalist Christian”. It’s the wrong connotation, completely.

For someone seemingly so sensitive about broad brushes, especially when it comes to reading my posts, I would think you’d be among the first to understand the problems of calling ABB “fundamentalist Christian”. He’s not even Protestant. He thinks he’s a frickin’ Templar lol.
