Yeah, you’d think, but there’s many Chinese traditional attitudes that 65 years of Communist rule have not eliminated.

The imbalance between the number of men and women is increasing, an unintended consequence of the one-child policy and a traditional preference for male children. The government has recently loosened the rules to permit some urban couples to have more than one kid, but it’s too little too late. Either Chinese men are going to have to swallow their pride and “marry up” or they will have import their brides from abroad.

My first thought is “men are stupid.” Geesh.

ETA: Obviously, not all men. I guess I’m just tired of people using the “but it’s tradition!” as their reasoning when it makes absolutely no sense.
