Growing up in white bubble, my story.
I went to an all white catholic school. Until the one little black girl enrolled.
We became friends, my parents & her parents became friends. Her mom had an MG & would come over & give us kids rides up and down the street.
Apparently the neighborhood was shocked.
I had a birthday party where some neighborhood kids were forced to boycott because my friend was there.
I didn’t know all this then, but found out later.
My parents were very liberal in those times & I’m grateful.
My dad was born in 1916, and he was a lifelong republican; he would not tolerate any kind of anti-black bigotry. The n-word was completely verboten. IDK how he felt about Malcolm at that time, though. I think his tolerant acceptance was based around his x-tianity.
