The lower the burden of proof, the more likely a incorrect result. The money award does not mean the kids were unarmed, nor that this was not self defense. Being right in defense is no guarantee of avoiding civil liberty. I would argue it should be absent excessive force. What we don’t know is if those kids tried to take the gun or flee. Which would make all the diff under the law and IMO.
