I agree. I think that was many people’s expectation. As we’ve discussed at least once, Americans in particular are oddly attached to an overestimation of Russian military capabilities. We really really want for Russia to be the Big Bad Evil Empire that the Soviet Union was of old.

We rarely understand that this was the Red Army all along.
