I know a very non-right wing guy from that town who thought it was bad for Obama to pitch Chicago because it smacked of patronage returns for his homies.

IMO, he should not have gotten involved without being 99% sure he could close the deal (maybe he was?) because he does need to think about his reputation now for getting things through.
