The conclusion:

pretty much tells us the story. They want her to succeed because the evil (i.e., liberals/left) hate her, but are pretty clear that they can’t sell her to the nation quite yet.

I pretty much ignore whatever American Spectator and similar mags have to say. They only exist as comfort food for the wingnuts.

Oh, I’d agree. This stood out to me because it wasn’t comfort food for wingnuts at ALL. The requisite pablum about Palin’s charisma, and the nice sleeping pill at the end about how she’s capable of being president in Teh FUTUR!1! make it slip down easy for the wingnut— but the rest of the piece makes it sound like they’re talking about a future in a parallel universe where Palin didn’t do any of the awful stuff they lovingly detail. I find it damned weird to see a piece in American Spectator that would admit she ever did anything wrong ever. Let alone one quite as destructive as this one.
Strange days indeed…
