They absolutely cannot allow themselves to believe it. Because if the evidence is overwhelming then that could actually rip their congregations apart. Also it doesn’t help with denying the truth of it that Cohen paid $130K to shut her up at the same time that Trump was promising he was innocent and would sue all of his other accusers. Abortion is the closest thing modern evangelicals have that’s close to a moral absolute and a cultural touchstone. It’s the one thing they can’t allow themselves to be publicly seen condoning.
