I was reading recently about how and why cocaine became illegal in the US. Apparently, “nobody” had a problem with it when it was middle class and rich white guys doing it. But when black guys started doing it, it because a problem. Funny that.

I’m sort of meh on legalizing drugs other than marijuana. Wouldn’t necessarily be opposed to it, but I suspect we are a long way from having any sort of rational conversation about it. Then again, I didn’t think I’d see a mainstream presidential candidate suggest decriminalizing sex work in my lifetime either, so there’s that.

I think we just need to do it incrementally. Even Amsterdam for all its reputation of being a drug user’s paradise never outright legalized cocaine and heroin. TBH if we’re going to want to legalize the hard drugs, I want there to be a ready steady treatment facilities. Coke and especially heroin are different animals than marijuana. I admit that a lot of my reluctance with heroin is for personal reasons. A family member and a friend will do that. I don’t touch that shit. I like marijuana. In fact, I’d even say it’s better than pot or cigs but heroin, I stay the hell out of its way.
