They were billed as the Santana Blues Band. Carlos was this skinny little dude with a Gibson SG and a stage full of wild haired percussionists. Nobody knew who or what they were. Carlos walked up to the microphone and said; “We are billed as the Santana Blues Band………………We are Santana.” And then they took out the first ten rows of people. If you saw the Woodstock performance, compound that by about 10. That was Santana at Atlantic City Pop Festival. Nuts.
