Getting caught up on the day’s news regarding AMI and Bezos.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t blackmail illegal? Like, call in the cops and FBI and have someone arrested legal? Is the Enquirer doing this because they got immunity from Muller, and think they’re untouchable?

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this. I know we live in insane times, but Jesus Christ; a large media corporation trying to blackmail one of the world’s richest men into shutting down said man’s newspaper investigations?

Yes, it’s illegal.
No, it’s not because they got immunity. This probably voids the immunity deal, and is AT LEAST not covered under the current deal.
And it also leaves the SDNY really annoyed with Pecker and AMI…this is a bad idea. Like invading Russia in the winter bad idea.

But the thing you’re missing is that is the Enquirer’s SOP, and has been for years or even decades. This is how they roll. But Bezos is secure enough to say “fuck you, go for it, in fact, I’ll write the story for you”.
