I have to wonder two things about this:

Maybe I’ve seen too many episodes of “The West Wing,” but was Obama actually paving the way for this to happen with his war threats, even if the war in question would be political suicide?

Or did Putin save Obama’s ass?

My hunch, for what it’s worth - a little bit of both.
