Editor’s note: National Journal’s Daniel Newhauser reports an unnamed House Republican member says a short-term continuing resolution will likely be necessary as voting on a $1.1 trillion spending bill is postponed ahead of a midnight expiration of existing federal funding. Either passage of the spending package or a short-term CR is needed to avoid a government shutdown. - Stephanie

Some part of me wonders if that was the intent of all this. To force a vote on a short-term CR that would mean another fight in a few months time by cramming full the long-term bill full of Republican Christmas wishes.
