Could God really promise to one only people a land and exclude all others?

As I heard someone put it - God gave the Jews Israel and everyone else gets the rest of the planet. Sounds fair to me. But also, Chinese have China, Indians have India, Arabs have 99.9 % of the middle east…. so what is the big deal over a grain of sand on this little planet?
